EMBRYO TRANSFER

With an 88% Success rate at Equibreed, you are in good hands.

Embryo Transfer (ET) allows you to breed from your mare while keeping her in training, competing, or avoiding the risks of carrying a foal herself. It’s also an excellent option for older mares, mares with foaling complications in the past, or those who need additional reproductive support.

Our experienced team at Equibreed offers a smooth, well-managed ET service using our own recipient mares or in collaboration with your chosen recipient source.

We’re proud to consistently achieve embryo transfer success rates above 88%, thanks to our experts onsite, professional facilities, and meticulous care throughout the process.

What is embryo transfer?

The process by which an embryo is flushed from the uterus of a donor (genetically superior mare) and placed into the uterus of a surrogate/recipient mare.

Using Equibreed for embryo transfer made a huge difference for us. It meant we could keep competing with our best mares without missing a beat, while still producing healthy, high-quality foals. The team were brilliant, really knowledgeable and supportive throughout the whole process.

LET'S GET STARTED

Why choose Embryo Transfer?

  • Your donor mare can stay in work. She continues training and competing while still producing a foal.

  • Ideal for mares unable to carry. Older mares or those with health or physical issues can still pass on their genetics.

  • Multiple foals from one mare in a season. ET allows you to collect and transfer more than one embryo per year.

  • Start breeding earlier. Young mares can begin producing foals as early as 3 years old without the need to carry them.

  • More stallion choices. With no need for natural covering, you can select from a wider range of stallions. Click here to see our stallions.

How do we support you with Embryo Transfer?

  • Recipient Mares: We can supply healthy, well-managed recipient mares with proven success in carrying pregnancies. These mares are cared for professionally and closely monitored throughout the pregnancy.

  • Timing and Coordination
ET is time-sensitive and requires precise synchronisation between donor and recipient mares. Our experienced team handles every detail, ensuring both mares are monitored and managed to the highest standard.

  • Clear Communication
You’ll be kept informed at every stage — from follicle tracking to embryo flush and transfer results.

Each mare is unique

Every horse is special and unique, which is why we provide fully bespoke services tailored to the individual needs of each mare. Our pricing and terms and conditions are designed to reflect this personalised approach and the specific care required for optimal results. FAQs about ET

Q: Can my mare stay in work while doing ET?

Yes. That’s one of the key benefits. Once the embryo is flushed, your mare can return to training or competition.

Q: What if no embryo is recovered?

This can happen, even with perfect timing. We’ll discuss next steps with you, including trying again on a new cycle.

Q: Can I use my own recipient mare?

Yes. We can work with your vet and facilities if you’d like to supply your own recipient, though we also offer access to our trusted herd on site.

Q: How many embryos can I collect in one season?

It depends on your mare and the semen source, but multiple embryos per season may be possible.
